Ensemble Matheus« backAt the beginning, the group functioned as Quatuor Matheus. Currently it belongs to the group of formations, which repertoire encompasses pieces from the XVII century until modern times. The musicians play instruments from the époque (baroque, classical) or modern. The performances and recordings of Ensemble Matheus have been honoured with many international awards. The group regularly cooperates with known personalities such as Natalie Dessay, Susan Graham, Jennifer Larmore, Sandrine Piau, Philippe Jaroussky, Veronic Cangemi, Marie-Nicole Lemieux or Topi Lehtipuu. It is a frequent guest on the most important stages in France and other countries in Europe, as well as outside it. During recent seasons, the group was distinguished by participating in many performances, among others, in W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute in Bilbao (directed by Daniel Abbado), G. Rossini’s La pietra del paragone at Théâtre du Châtelet (directed by Georgio Corsetti and Pierrick Sorin), in G.F. Handel’s Alcina directed by Robert Carsen, shown at the Paris Opera, in the Viennese Konzerthaus and at the opening of the new season at Grand Théâtre de Provence w Aix, in Messager’s Veronique directed by Fanny Ardant at the Théâtre du Châtelet, in A. Vivaldi’s La fida ninfa, which was shown on the great tour around Europe (among others in Vienna, Madrid, Brussels and Paris). In February 2008, Ensemble Matheus debuted in the United States (Carnegie Hall in New York). The upcoming plans of the group include performances with Philippe Jaroussky in the programme dedicated to Farinelli’s arias (Lyon, Salzburg and Sankt Petersburg); preparing a new production of G.F. Handel’s Messiah (Vienna, and then a European tour) and concerts from J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Natalie Dessay and opera productions – V. Bellini’s Norma and G. Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. The group has made several recordings, among others for the company Naïve (among others A. Vivaldi’s 4 operas – La verità in cimento, Orlando furioso, Griselda and La fida ninfa, album from Stabat Mater and Nisi Dominus with Philippe Jaroussky and Marie-Nicole Lemieux), as well as Virgin Classics (among others, an album with A. Vivaldi’s arias – Heroes with Philippe Jaroussky). Ensemble Matheus’ seat is in Brittany. The group is under the patronage of: Conseil régional de Bretagne (Regional Council of Brittany), Conseil Général du Finistère (Finistère Department Council), City Council in Brest, Ministry of Culture and Communication – DRAC Bretagne (Regional Director of Culture in Brittany). |
