Il Giardino Armonico« backThe ensemble, founded in 1985 in Milan, is presently one of the world’s most recognizable groups specializing in 17th- and 18th-century music performance. Il Giardino Armonico has performed at such distinguished concert halls as: the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall and the Barbican Centre in London, the Wiener Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Zürcher Tonhalle, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Library of Congress in Washington, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Sydney Opera House, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, etc. For over a dozen years, it recorded for the Teldec label. Numbering among its most important accomplishments are recordings of instrumental works by A. Vivaldi (Le quattro stagioni – for which Il Giardino Armonico received an array of the highest distinctions, among others, the Fondazione Cini Award, the Caecilia Award, the Diapason d’Or, the Choc de la Musique, the Grand Prix des Discophiles; and Il Proteo – double and triple concerti with Christophe Coin, which received, among others, the Gramophone Award and the Diapason d’Or), as well as by J. S. Bach (Brandenburg Concerti). In 1999, for the Decca label, the group made a recording with Cecilia Bartoli entitled Vivaldi Album, on which are to be found some of his newly-discovered arias. In 2005, the ensemble released two albums: La Casa del Diavolo (compositions by L. Boccherini, P. A. Locatelli, C. W. Gluck, C. P. E. Bach and W. F. Bach) for the French label Naïve, as well as violin concerti by A. Vivaldi (with Viktoria Mullova) for the Onyx label. Il Giardino Armonico also prepares opera works, and its staged productions of works by C. Monteverdi (L’Orfeo), G. F. Handel (Agrippina, Il Trionfo del tempo e del Disinganno and La Resurrezione, as well as Aci, Galatea e Polifemo) and G. B. Pergolesi (La serva padrona) have enjoyed spectacular successes. | ||||||||||
