Veronica Cangemi

Born in Mendoza/Argentina, Veronica Cangemi was first Cellist of the Mendoza Symphony Orchestra before winning the first prizes at the National Singing Contest in Argentina and at the Francisco Vinas Contest in Barcelona. Veronica Cangemi then started her career in Europe singing Gluck's Armide with Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens Du Louvre in Versailles, from then on she concentrated on the Baroque and Mozart Repertoire, and has worked with Maestro's and Ensembles like Giovanni Antonini and Il Giardino Armonico, Fabio Biondi, Ivor Bolton, William Christie, Adam Fischer, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Sir Neville Marriner, Zubin Mehta, Jean-Philippe Spinosi with Ensemble Matheus (among others). She performed at Opera Houses like the Bavarian State Opera, Florence Teatro Comunale, Glyndebourne (title role of Iphigenie en Aulide), Salzburg Festival, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Theater an der Wien, Zürich's Opera House, Brussels Opera House. Recent projects: USA-Debut in San Francisco with Ariodante, La Fida Ninfa with Ensemble Matheus (recording with Naive), Haydn's Creation concert tour in Spain, Dresden State Opera with her debut as Musetta, La Boheme, Debut at Amsterdam's Opera House with Haendel's Ercole Amante, Paris Theatre du Champs-Elyseé with Così fan tutte/Fiordiligi, Carmen (debut of Micaela) in Japan with Vesselina Kasarova, a production of Handel’s Messiah. Future projects: Agrippina (debut of Poppea) in Venice, a tour with Giardino Armonico, revival of Don Giovanni at La Scala, Nozze di Figaro (Susanna) at Washington’s Opera, Alcina (Morgana) at Vienna’s State Opera, Orlando Furioso at Theatre du Champs-Elysee in Paris. Among her numerous recordings are to mention Ariodante with Deutsche Grammophon which has been awarded "Diapason d'Or of the year 1998" and "Orpheé d'Or" and Griselda with Naive awarded "Diapason d'Or of the year 2006".
