Well worth the wait
Add date: Monday, 12 December 2011

"It is hard to think of a better end to the season than the world premiere of a great opera with leading artists in the cast. This was the grand finale of this year's Opera Rara series," reads an article in the weekend issue of the Gazeta Wyborcza daily.

"The solo performances on Thursday night were undeniably very exciting. Biondi not only gave us the reconstruction of a lost masterpiece, but also chose the best vocalists to perform. The Norwegian vocalist Magnus Staveland enchanted the audience with his strong tenor as Polifonte. Then, we had to wait almost to the end of Act Three for the most beautiful aria by the main character, Queen Merope (an exquisite performance by Ann Hallenberg). It is hard to find weaker moments in the performance by the Swedish soprano, and her dramatic take on the La' sul torbido Acheronte aria was unforgettable," writes Tomasz Handzlik in the Polish daily.
