The year 2009 is celebrated worldwide as the year of Georg Friedrich Händel and has been established to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the composer’s death, which falls on 14th April 2009. The main events of Händel’s year are focused on the places connected with his life: in his hometown Halle in Germany and in London where he died. The central event of the commemorative celebrations was planned as a Special Day -19th April 2009 when over 40 radio stations belonging to the European Broadcasting Union broadcast commemorative concerts in their countries. Halle, being Händel's birthplace launched its Special Day with a concert in Marktkirche church where the composer was baptised. Moreover, the Händel Festival will take place in Halle from 4th to 14th June 2009 under the honourable patronage of Queen Elizabeth the Second and President of Germany Horst Köhler. Other news:
