Classical music performers try to seek popularity by turning to pop music more and more often. With various results – writes Dorota Szwarcman in the latest issue of the Polityka weekly. She ponders: Some artists are not entirely satisfied with the traditional system: concert halls or opera houses, elite audiences, applause. They want to be adored by the crowds. Thus, they try to meet them halfway; sometimes actually led simply by their temperament. But is the applause that they get an expression of acclaim for their art or rather their image?
Roberta Invernizzi lovers have recently been granted a double musical treat. No sooner had Deutsche Harmonia Mundi released a magnificent Caldara-Handel Vespers CD (featuring several top-league international Baroque singers, alongside Roberta), than Italian Baroque specializing label Glossa launched an Invernizzi solo album comprising Vivaldi arias.
Giulio Cesare in Egitto by George Frideric Handel (scheduled for the 6th of June, 8 p.m., at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre), will be available for purchase from Wednesday, the 25th of April. They can be purchased online at www.eventim.pl and at three InfoKraków municipal information points: at ul. Św. Jana 2, the Wyspiański Pavilion (Pl. Wszystkich Świętych 2), and the Tourist Services Center (ul. Powiśle 11). Tickets to sector 1 are offered at PLN 120 (reduced ticket) and PLN 180 (regular ticket); tickets to sector 2 – at PLN 100 and PLN 150, respectively.
On May 4 Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse will host a grand, new production: Jean-Philippe Rameau's opéra-ballet Les Indes Galantes conducted by Christophe Rousset, founder of Les Talens Lyriques and virtuoso harpsichord player. The event will be grand indeed - the staging of the four act long opera (with a prologue) involves combined forces of Théâtre du Capitole, Opéra national de Bordeaux and Staatstheater Nürnberg, and requires a huge cast of soloists, dancers and instrumentalists.
